Delegation from O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), India, Visits Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura
On 22nd May 2026, a distinguished delegation from O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), India, visited the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with the aim of initiating, strengthening, and expanding academic and professional collaboration with Sri Lankan legal professionals, academics, and policymakers. The visit was part of JGU’s official tour to Sri Lanka from 19th to 23rd May 2026.
During the discussions, the delegation introduced several key international academic and professional initiatives designed to enhance global engagement, research collaboration, and institutional partnerships.
Among the major programmes presented was the Global Lawyers Fellowship Programme, conducted through the International Mooting Academy for Advocacy, Arbitration & Dispute Resolution (IMAANDAAR). This initiative offers practitioner-led training for senior legal professionals, including simulations, arbitration proceedings, and negotiations within an international cohort from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
The delegation also outlined the Naveen Jindal Young Global Research Fellowship, which supports early-career researchers worldwide by promoting collaborative and interdisciplinary research, academic exchange, and long-term partnerships with access to JGU’s academic resources and research centres.
Further discussions covered the Annual Global Diplomatic Conclave & International Diplomatic Capacity-Building Programme – a flagship initiative bringing together diplomats, policymakers, and scholars for dialogue, training, and knowledge exchange on global governance and international affairs. Attention was also given to the Star Scholars Network & Conference 2026, an international academic platform led by JGU that fosters global collaboration in research, teaching, joint publications, and faculty engagement across disciplines through conferences and institutional partnerships.
The JGU delegation included Prof. (Dr.) Rahul Bhandari, Mr. Swapnil S. Bhosale, and Sri Lankan Research Fellows Mr. S.K.K.A Perera, Miss Elisha Fernando, and Mr. Nasmil.
Participating in the discussions from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, were Senior Professor Shirantha Heenkenda (Dean), Professor Nilanthi Rajapaksha (Head of the Department of Languages, Cultural Studies and Performing Arts), Dr. Githara Wanasinghe (Head of the Department of Music and Creative Technology), and senior lecturers in Languages, Performing Arts, and Anthropology: Ven. Meepitiye Seelaratana, Dr. Raveendra Withanachchi, Dr. Manori Manamperi, and Dr. Himalika Ranaweera.
This visit marked a significant step toward fostering international academic cooperation and strengthening global partnerships between the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and O.P. Jindal Global University, India.
