FHSS of USJ Updates Extension Courses Prospectus
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura successfully conducted a two-day workshop under the leadership of the Dean, FHSS, Senior Professor Shirantha Heenkenda on 23rd and 24th June 2026 to review and update its Extension Courses Prospectus.
The workshop brought together the academic staff, programme coordinators, and subject experts to ensure that the courses offered remain relevant, industry-oriented, and aligned with current academic and professional standards. The initiative reflects the Faculty’s continued commitment to expanding educational opportunities for external students and lifelong learners.
During the sessions, a wide range of diploma and certificate programmes were carefully evaluated and revised. The updated diploma programmes include Social Work, Buddhist Counselling, Tradition of Buddhist Education and Early Childhood Development, Buddhist Studies, Chinese Language, Community Psychology, Criminology, Criminal Psychology and Offender Counselling, Rural Development, Data Analytics, English, GIS and Remote Sensing, Information Technology, Japanese, Cultural and Heritage Tourism, Writership and Communication, and Applied Tamil Language.
In addition, the Certificate Course in Angampora and the Advanced Certificate in English were also reviewed and enhanced to better meet learner needs and contemporary demands.
The revisions focused on improving course content, teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, developing new code system and overall programme structure. Special attention was given to incorporating practical skills, interdisciplinary approaches, and emerging trends in relevant fields.
The updated prospectus is expected to provide prospective students with improved learning pathways and greater access to quality education through the Faculty’s extension programmes.
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences continues to play a vital role in promoting inclusive education and community engagement through its diverse range of academic offerings.
