FHSS Participation at International Academic Seminar at Yunnan University
The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, delivered a keynote speech at the international academic seminar titled “Communication Empowering Regional Development”, held at Yunnan University, China, on November 1, 2025.
This prestigious event was organized by the Journalism and Communication Subcommittee of the South and Southeast Asian Universities Alliance and the School of Journalism, Yunnan University, in collaboration with Yunnan Radio and Television Lancang-Mekong International TV, Myanmar Academy of Government Management, and Krirk University of Thailand. The seminar aimed to promote academic exchange and cooperation in the field of journalism and communication and to explore new ways through which communication can contribute to regional progress and sustainable development.
The event brought together Chinese and foreign scholars from renowned universities such as Zhejiang University, Communication University of China, Nanjing University, University of Kelaniya (Sri Lanka), Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), North-South University (Bangladesh), and Singapore University of Social Sciences, among others. The discussions centered on how communication innovation, national media strategies, digital media transformation, and artificial intelligence could foster regional development and connectivity across South and Southeast Asia.
In his keynote address, the Dean of FHSS highlighted the importance of communication innovation, digital transformation, and collaborative media platforms in enhancing regional partnerships, promoting inclusive growth, and achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also emphasized the need for continued academic cooperation among universities in South and Southeast Asia to build a strong foundation for knowledge sharing and intercultural understanding.
During the seminar, participants also took part in a roundtable academic exchange and study visit at the Yunnan Radio and Television Station, where they explored innovative practices in regional communication, multimedia content development, and international broadcasting strategies. The visit provided valuable insights into how media institutions in Yunnan are contributing to strengthening cross-border dialogue and public diplomacy within the region.
The active participation of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in this international academic forum underscores its growing commitment to fostering regional academic collaboration, enhancing the global visibility of Sri Lankan higher education, and promoting cross-cultural dialogue between South and Southeast Asian nations.
