The Unit on Ethical Studies
Center for Digital Education and Professional Development
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
University of Sri Jayewardenepura
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) places high importance on promoting ethical education and fostering responsible leadership within its academic community. To achieve these objectives, FHSS has established an ethics center under the CEDEP, focused on embedding ethics into academic and institutional practices. This ethics center is committed to promoting critical ethical decision-making and guiding students and faculty towards integrity and accountability in both personal and professional spheres.
In line with these values, Ethic Centre proposes a collaborative workshop with Globethics, an international non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing ethical leadership and addressing societal challenges. Established in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2004 by ethics professor Christoph Stückelberger, Globethics has grown into a globally recognized network with a mission to bridge diverse cultural, religious, philosophical, and humanist perspectives on ethics. Their resources include the world’s largest digital library on ethics, a multilingual publishing house, and dedicated centers in Asia, Africa, and South America. With consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), Globethics is uniquely positioned to enhance the global dialogue on ethics and foster sustainable, inclusive solutions.
Since 2016, Globethics has focused its activities on ethics in higher education, promoting ethical governance and curriculum integration across institutions to support responsible leadership. The organization offers programs through the Globethics Academy and supports a consortium dedicated to ethics in higher education. Accredited by both the European Agency for Higher Education and Accreditation (EAHEA) and the British Accreditation Council, Globethics stands as a recognized authority in ethical leadership and collaboration in higher education.
Our collaboration with Globethics will include an annual workshop, beginning with an inaugural session scheduled for December 2-4, 2024, aimed at FHSS academics. This workshop will provide a vital platform to explore practical and theoretical applications of ethics in academia and society.
