Centre for Sri Lankan Women Thinkers and Scientists of FHSS Signs Landmark Agreement with ICS Global, India
The Centre for Sri Lankan Women Thinkers and Scientists of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, reached a historic milestone on 1st September 2025 by signing a Letter of Intent (LOI) with ICS Global, India. The ceremony, held at the Vice Chancellor’s Board Room, marked the beginning of a strong international partnership aimed at fostering research collaborations, strengthening mentorship opportunities, and empowering women to take leadership roles in academia and beyond.
The event was graced by several distinguished members of the university, including Snr. Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, Vice Chancellor; Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Ruwini Dharmawardana, Director of International Affairs; Mr. Aruna Shantha Walpola, Head of Department; Prof. Sanjeevi Mantrirathna; Dr. Kaushalya Hewawasam; and Ms. Buddhini Dharmawardena. Representing ICS Global were Mr. Pankaj Kathane, Founder and Managing Director; Dr. Arpita Kathane, Co-founder and COO; and Dr. T. S. Sanjayan, Director of Global Alliance. The initiative was organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Asha Nimali Fernando (Chair), with support from Dr. H. P. K. N. Hewawasam (Secretary) and Dr. Buddini Dharmawardhene (Member).
Continuing this important collaboration, the Centre organized a special guest lecture on 2nd September 2025 at Wimaladamma Mansion, under the theme “Empowering Women Educators.” The session featured two thought-provoking talks: Dr. Arpita Kathane presented on “Design Thinking for Women Educators” while Dr. T. S. Sanjayan spoke on “Teaching Beyond Classrooms in the AI Era.” Both lectures highlighted the importance of creativity, innovation, and technology in shaping the future of education and equipping women to lead with confidence and vision.
This landmark agreement and the inspiring lecture series reflect USJ’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, inclusivity, and global engagement. By strengthening international networks and promoting innovation in education and science, the Centre for Sri Lankan Women Thinkers and Scientists is helping to position Sri Lankan women at the forefront of global academic research and leadership.
