Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Welcomes Delegation from Zhejiang Shuren University, China
On 28th July 2025, the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, alongside the International Affairs Division, had the privilege to welcome the delegation from the Zhejiang Shuren University, Hangzhou, China. A team of 08 academic members and 22 students, led by their President Prof. LI Lu, was welcomed by Senior Prof. M. M. Pathmalal, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The team was welcomed by Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, on the 30th of July 2025.
Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, discussed future collaborations, research and publication opportunities, Chinese language and cultural exchange programs during this visit with the academic members from Zhejiang Shuren University. Prof. Gamini Ranasinghe from the Department of History and Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, presented valuable insights about China-Sri Lanka collaboration during the discussion.
A student-oriented lecture series was conducted by both universities during this occasion, featuring practical demonstrations. Dr. Wang Heyi conducted a lecture on Chinese Tea Culture. Miss Song Siyan, Miss Zhao Xinyu, Mr. Huang Dingjun, and Mr. Jin Bowen conducted a lecture on Unveiling the Pictographic Secrets of Chinese Characters. These two lectures were conducted for the students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Lecturer Mrs. Gayathri Puwanendram conducted a lecture on Sri Lankan History, Literature, Language, and Culture for the students from Zhejiang Shuren University, China.
This delegation was followed by a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing and music, performed by the Department of Languages, Cultural Studies, and Performing Arts. The students collaboratively participated from the Chinese Language Association, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and the Japura Tourism Club, the Official Tourism Club, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, for the arrangements during this visit at the Faculty.
