Department of Geography organized “Indo-Sri Lankan Academic Exchange Programme 2016” which was held on 8th December 2016 from 10.oo am to 4.00 pm in the Department premises. Sixteen papers were presented by students from India and Sri Indo-Sri Lankan Studies. Various research topics on Gender Studies, Culture, Tourism, Dynamism of Population, Electoral Geography ect. have been discussed with the 100 participants from both Departments of Geography in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Department Geography, Parvatibai Chowgule Collage, of Art and Science, Goa, India.
Inauguration ceremony was held with the participation Dr. D. P. S. Chandrakumara, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Sunethra Thennakoon, Head, Department of Geography and Former dean Mr. Lasantha nawaratne and senior Academics from Department of Geography including Prof. R.M.K. Rathnayake. Assistant Professor Merel DSilva, Programme Coordinator, Department of Geography, Assistant Professors Syali and Janet, Department of sociology and the 9 Students of Parvathibai Chowgule College, Goa, India participated for this event. In addition to these four days of field work programme was organized to Knuckles range and Galle. Students and staff members attended for the lectures conducted by the academic staff members (Dr. Shantha Wijesinghe, Dr. Nishantha Hettiarachchi and Mr, Sumanajith Kumara) in the Department of Geography.
