Students of the Department of Geography conducted an exhibition on Rock and Minerals that they collected from their resident areas. At about 15 samples have been collected and made rock and mineral sample boxes individually by students. Study has been aimed to provide practical knowledge on Minerals, Rocks their types and characteristics to the geography students. These various types of minerals and rock sample boxes were exhibited on 6th January at the mapping lab of the Department of Geography, from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm.
Dr. D. P. S. Chandrakumara, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Sunethra Thennakoon, Head, Department of Geography, Mr. Hemantha Diunugala, Head, Department of Social Statistics, Mr. Senani Harischandra, Head, Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication, Mr. P. L. T. Purasinghe, Head, Department of Political Science as well as many academics of the Faculty participated to the event. This was opened to the undergraduates of the Faculty as a opportunity to improve their knowledge on verity of rock and mineral samples found from many areas of Sri Lanka. This study was a prerequisites for the final examination on Basic Geology (GEOG 2210) which was guided by Mr. B. A. Sumanajith Kumara, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Geography.
