The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is awarding gold medals to the students who obtain the highest grades in examinations.
The students represent departments/different fields of studies and they are awarded gold medals under the following categories.
This is awarded to the most outstanding student who obtained First Class or second class (upper division) with the highest Grade Point Average in any Honours degree offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Professor B. A. Tennyson Perera Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Anthropology with a First Class and the highest Grade Point Average.
Professor Nandasena Rathnapala Gold Medal for the student who obtained First Class or Second Class (Upper) with the highest Grade Point Average and the highest number of “A” passes for the Criminology course units in the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree (Criminology and Criminal Justice) .
Professor P. Wilson Gold Medal for the student who passed Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Economics with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the Highest Grade Point Average.
Professor S. Thilakarathne Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Economics with a First Class and the highest marks for course units in “Economics”.
Professor Upali Wickramasinghe Gold Medal for the student who passed Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Economics with a First Class and the highest marks for the course units in “Development Economics”.
Dr. Tissa Rajapaksha Gold Medal for the student who passed Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Economics with a First Class and the highest marks for the course units in “Monetary Economics”.
Professor M.M. Karunanayake Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Geography with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Professor Dhammika Wanasinghe Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Geography with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest marks of grade “A” category for the course unit in ‘Settlement and Urban Geography’.
R. M. Dingiri Menike Upasika Matha Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Archaeology with a First Class or second class (upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Professor D. L. Abewardena Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in History with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Professor Mendis Rohanadeera Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in History or Archaeology with First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and “A” Passes with the highest marks for ‘Epigraphy and Character Morphology’ course units.
Professor Malani Endagama Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in History with First Class or Second (Upper) Division and highest average marks for the course units in ‘European History’.
“Madanwala Sri Dharmodaya” Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Sanskrit with a first or second class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
“Kalasoori Piyasara Shilpadhipathi” Gold Medal for the upliftment of Sri Lankan Traditional Dance to the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Dance with First class and the highest average marks for all practical course units in Dancing.
Professor Ariyapala Perera- Sita Perera Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Buddhist Civilization with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average. The degree must include at least one course unit in the field of study of Pali.
Chief Prelate Ven. Kudākathnoruwe Siddhārtha Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Buddhist Philosophy with a First class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Chief Prelate Bellanwila Sri Somarathana Thero Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Pali with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Bellanwila Sri Wimalarathana Anunayaka Swamindra Gold medal for the student who obtained First Class with the highest GPA in any Honours degree offered by the Department of Pali and Buddhist studies
Professor P. Athukorala Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Political Science with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Professor A.V. Suraweera Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Sinhala with a First Class and the highest marks for a minimum of two course units from Modern Sinhala Novels, Modern Sinhala Short Stories, Sociology of Literature and Western Literary Criticism and Theory.
G.B. Senanayake Memorial Gold Medal for the student who passed the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Sinhala with a First Class or Second (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Professor Nandasena Rathnapala Gold Medal for the student who obtained First Class or Second Class (Upper) with the highest Grade Point Average and the Highest Number of “A” Passes for the Sociology course units at the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree (Sociology)
Professor W.A. Jayathissa Gold Medal for the student who passed any Bachelor (Honours) degree offered by the Department of Social Statistics with a First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division and the highest Grade Point Average.
Senior Lecturer S.A.C. Stanley Silva Gold Medal for the student who obtained a First Class with the highest Grade Point Average for the course units of ‘Probability and Inferential Statistics in any Honours degree offered by the Department of Social Statistics.
