Leadership training for FHSS Junior Academic Mentors by Sri Lanka police
Two-day residential leadership training programme was organized by the Deputy Proctors of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in collaboration with Sri Lanka police under the guidance of the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Shirantha Heenkenda. The main objective of the leadership training programme held on 19th and 20th February 2025 at the Sri Lanka Police College, Kalutara was to equip the junior academic mentors (second year undergraduates) of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) with the skills and mindset necessary to succeed in both academic and professional environments. While thanking the Sri Lanka police for hosting this outbound training, especially for the Senior DIG Sajeeva Madawatta, Prof. Heenkenda noted that the leadership training will also help the FHSS junior academic mentors to enhance their communication skills, build teamwork and collaboration, develop problem-solving and decision-making skills, boost self-confidence and motivation, encourage social responsibility and ethical leadership, improve time management and organizational skills, strengthen networking and relationship-building, and handle stress and adversity. Joining the inauguration ceremony held on the first day of the training, Deputy Director (Training), Senior DIG Dushantha Ruwan Thalagala, Sri Lanka Police College, also commented that this training will not only prepare students for managerial roles but also help them grow into confident, responsible, and proactive individuals.
The inauguration ceremony was held with the participation of Dr. Nelum Kanthilatha, Senior Lecturer Sumanajith Kumara, Assistant Lecturers Ms. Samadhi Karunarathna, Ms. Vigesha Ravihari, Mr. Nethmal Sampath and Mr. Chamika Balasuriya representing the FHSS and OIC, Sri Lanka Police College, CI Kalbovila, OIC, Operational Training Unit, IP Chamith Nadinjaya, SI Jayasekara and SI Wickramarachchi representing the Kalutara Police Academy.
