METAE 2016 – Economics Week

The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences holds an Economics Week named “METAE 2016” in order to share economic knowledge among G.C.E. Advanced Level students and undergraduates. It will be held from the 15th of November 2016 to 18th of November 2016. The major objective of this event is to bring together a cohort of Economics students in order to further pick their interest in the subject by practical and entertaining methods.

“METAE 2016” will be held in 4 phases.

15th of November 2016 Inter School Debate Competition 8.30 a.m. – 2.30 p.m.
16th of November 2016 Seminar for Advanced Level Economics students 8.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m.
17th of November 2016 Entrepreneurship and Soft Skills Development Program 8.00 a.m. – 4.15 p.m.
18th of November 2016 Political and Economic Discussion 5.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.

 

The Inter School Debate competition will be held among schools in the Colombo zone on topics that holds timely importance in the current economic context of Sri Lanka. The preliminary rounds will be held on the 2nd of November 2016 and the final round will be held on the 15th of November 2016.

The seminar for G.C.E. Advanced Level economics students will be conducted by Mr. Gamini Weerasinghe, the Head, Department of Economics, parallel to the Advanced Level economics syllabus.

The Entrepreneurship and Soft Skills Development Program will be conducted by Mr. Channa Gajanayaka from the Department of Entrepreneurship and Co-founder; present Chairman of the Raigam Group, Dr. Ravi Liyanage will be sharing experiences about his success.

The final phase will hold an Economic Discussion on the “2017 budget and future of the Economy ” by major politicians of popular political parties in Sri Lanka.
