A new system of digital banking was introduced to the students of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of University of Sri Jayewardenepura on the 31st of August 2020. The system was introduced by the faculty with the collaboration of People’s Bank for the benefit of students studying in the faculty and the introduction of this new system is a new step in online banking and is introduced to the Sri Lankan university system for the first time ever. The system would facilitate the students to use their student identity card as a digital banking card and this would give them the opportunity to easily access and check the status of their bursary and mahapola scholarships as well. Moreover, through this system payments for international journals, student welfare payments, student loans and many other financial facilities would be carried out conveniently.
An agreement to establish this system with the collaboration and assistance of the People’s Bank was signed at university premises with the participation of the CEO of the bank Mr. Ranjith Kodithuwakku, Mrs. Renuka Jayasinge the Deputy General Manager (Retail Banking, Process Management and Quality assurance along with the Vice Chancellor of the university; Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage and the Dean of the faculty of humanities and social sciences; Professor Shirantha Heenkenda.
