Welcome to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, without deviating from the great vision and mission of the university, has been able to extend its educational and research offer in line with the national demand of the country. All the degree programmes in the curriculum which are continuously being reviewed and developed are designed to produce globally responsible and socially responsive graduates with broad knowledge and skills related to the respective study areas.
Mission
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed to the development of the community and the nation at large through the dissemination and enhancement of knowledge enriched with the country’s cultural heritage.
Financial Hardship Scholarship Program for Students of FHSS 2025
Student Welfare Unit of the Student Support Center of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers short-term financial aid to the undergraduates who are facing extreme financial difficulties to continue their studies.

පෙරහුරු පරීක්ෂණය 2025 මාර්තු 21 වන සිකුරාදා දහවල් 12.00 සිට 1.00 දක්වා මාර්ගගත ව පැවැත් වේ. මාර්ගගත පෙරහුරු පරීක්ෂණය සඳහා පහත ලින්කුව ඔස්සේ පිවිසෙන්න.

International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS)
The 8th International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences, organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, invites researchers from around the world to submit their abstracts for presentation at IRCHSS 2023, to be held in a hybrid format on 16th and 17th March 2023. IRCHSS 2023 will feature a wide range of talks on humanities and social sciences and a symposium on English Language Teaching and Learning.
Vidyodaya Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (VJHSS)
Vidyodaya Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (VJHSS) is the official journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. VJHSS is open access and peer-reviewed journal published by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This peer-reviewed journal publishes two issues annually and invite original research articles from diverse disciplines .
Vidyodaya Undergraduate Research Day (VURD)
Vidyodaya Undergraduate Research Day organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura under the theme of “Achieving Greatness” focusing on uplifting the skills of the final year undergraduates and provide an exposure to ascertain and share novel knowledge through research related to the fields of humanities and social sciences. The conference will stimulate interaction between students and faculty, while encouraging undergraduates to pursue higher degrees through advanced research.
National Action Research Conference (NARCHE)
The National Action Research Conference on Higher Education organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will be held on 16th September 2021. This conference enables the researchers to present their new advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and applied learning, teaching and assessment and the participants to critically evaluate and absorb the good practices into their teaching, learning and assessment. International Conference on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICICH)
3rd International Conference on Intangible Cultural Heritage organized by the Department of Anthropology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura is one of the very first conference in this field of studies in Sri Lanka. ICICH will be conducted under the theme “Enriching Global Citizens through Traditional Insights” which promotes folklore research among the academia.
The conference encourages research findings from various fields such as Animal lore, Plant lore, Food culture, Traditional medicine, Traditional knowledge, Folk Art and Craft, Folk Medicine, Folk Drama, Folk Tale, Traditional Heritage, Folk dancing, Supernatural belief systems, Religion and Magic, Folk Poems etc.
