‘YES, WE CAN’: A Guest Lecture on Future Career Opportunities by Alumnus Ms. Hasheena Ferooz

In the ever-evolving landscape of the professional world, the journey from an undergraduate to a successful professional is an exciting adventure, filled with challenges and opportunities. Proving that nothing is impossible in life, an alumnus of the Department of History and Archaeology of USJ, Ms. Hasheena Ferooz (Hasheena F.), the Manager (Industrial Sales) of JAT Holdings PLC, shared her story with the current undergraduates (120+) of the Department of History and Archaeology on the 31st of January 2024, at Prof. Mendis Rohanadheera Hall.

Starting as a graduate with a BA (Hons) Degree in History and becoming the Manager of Industrial Sales of a leading company in Sri Lanka is quite a 180-degree paradigm shift, where her path was not always straightforward. However, her courage, dedication, and persistence have brought her to this position. Hence, upon the kind invitation of the department, she shared her personal anecdotes, detailing the challenges she faced in an unfamiliar environment, the lessons she learned, and the crucial moments that shaped her journey.

Upon the guidance of the Head of the Department, Sen. Lect. (Ven.) Dambara Amila Thero, the Students Association of the Department of History and Archaeology organized this guest lecture for the benefit of the present studentship. Accordingly, the attendees could grasp how to seek out future career opportunities even in unfamiliar circumstances, how to build up their career lives, and how to create professional networks. Further, Ms. Ferooz was kind enough to share her contact details with interested undergraduates who prefer to pursue a challenging career like her.

The staff and the students of the Department of History and Archaeology is glad to welcome back Alumnus Ms. Hasheena Ferooz and would like to thank her for sharing her invaluable insights and experience of her successful career path.
