7th International Congress of the Society of South Asian Archaeology (SOSAA)

7th International Congress of the Society of South Asian Archaeology (SOSAA) organised in collaboration with the Department of History and Archaeology University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo Sri Lanka, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center High Commission of India, Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO was held on 18th and 21st September 2020 at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

This conference was not limited to South Asian scholars, delegates from around the world working in South Asia who presented their research papers associated with broad theme of archaeology/ history of South Asia. Two special sessions- one on the Rajagala Archaeological Project in Sri Lanka and the other on Rakhigarhi Excavations in India were also held at this occasion to discuss applications of new scientific research methodologies and breakthrough results obtained.

The main objective of this conference was to Promote, Protect and Preserve our heritage for future generations. More than 130 scholars presented their finds in this congress. The scholars participated representing India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan, South Korea, Iran, China, Indonesia, UK, USA, etc.

Prof. Sudantha Liyanage; Vice chancellor of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda; Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Alexander Kapukotuwa; Head of the Department of History and Archaeology, Prof. Gamini Ranasinghe; Co Secretary of the SOSSA 2020 and many other delegates participated in the congress.
