Introduction

This diploma program is designed to provide students with comprehensive training in communication skills, media presence, personality development and modeling for both traditional and digital media environments. It aims to equip learners with the confidence, technical knowledge and professional competencies required to succeed in media-related industries, especially in performance, broadcasting and public representation roles.

The rapid evolution of media platforms has heightened the demand for individuals who possess strong communication abilities and presentational charisma. Recognizing this industry need, the Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication has developed a focused diploma to nurture and empower emerging media personalities by combining communication theory, modeling techniques and real-world application.

Diploma Holder Profile

  • Knowledge / Understanding

Understanding of communication theories, media dynamics and presentation strategies within different cultural and media contexts.

Practical expertise in voice modulation, public speaking, on-camera presence, runway modeling and creative performance techniques.

Ability to function professionally in teams, respect diversity, and demonstrate leadership and responsibility in media-related settings.

Capacity to critically analyze media content, innovate personal brand strategies and apply creative approaches in media representation.

Mastery of stylistic and expressive techniques relevant to visual, vocal and behavioral modeling in various media environments..

Graduates will be equipped with excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills. They will be capable of articulating ideas clearly, pitching creative concepts effectively and adapting messages for different audiences and platforms with confidence and flair.

Entry Requirements

The following qualifications are required to study this course:

  • Successful completion of the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (A/L) examination or possession of an equivalent qualification,

or

  • Completion of at least twelve years of school education and passing a proficiency examination, having completed a foundational course equivalent to Level 2 of the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework.

or

  • Completion of a knowledge-based bridging program equivalent to a minimum of 30 academic credits, as determined by the relevant higher education institution’s academic authority, or recognized work experience or completion of a Level 2 qualification under the National Vocational Qualifications Framework(NVQF).

or

  • Engagement in writing or other creative work for a period of not less than three years, or at least two years of employment in a media institution.
