Economic Students Association
The Economics Association of the Department of Economics, University of Sri Jayewardenepura is the student-led academic and professional association representing students enrolled in the Honours degree programmes offered by the Department. All students of the Honours degree programmes are members of the Association, creating a common platform for academic engagement, professional development, and student activities.
The Association is committed to complementing students’ academic learning by providing opportunities to develop leadership, communication, teamwork, research, organizational, and other essential soft skills. Through a range of academic, professional, cultural, social, and extracurricular activities, the Association encourages students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and actively participate in university life.
Each year, the Association elects its Executive Board, enabling students to gain practical experience in leadership, decision-making, event management, teamwork, and organizational responsibilities. The Association also facilitates interaction among students, academic staff, alumni, and external stakeholders through various programmes and initiatives.
Throughout the academic year, the Economics Association organizes and supports a variety of activities, including academic conferences, research presentations, workshops, seminars, competitions, awareness programmes, cultural activities, community-oriented initiatives, and student development programmes. These activities are designed to create a dynamic environment in which students can share ideas, explore contemporary economic and social issues, develop their capabilities, and build meaningful professional networks.
The Association also provides opportunities for students to showcase their research, creativity, talents, and achievements while encouraging active participation in the academic and extracurricular life of the Department. Through these initiatives, the Economics Association contributes to developing confident, responsible, and professionally prepared graduates.
Operating under the guidance and support of the Department of Economics, the Economics Association continues to serve as an important platform for student engagement, academic enrichment, leadership development, and community building within the Department.

MOMENTUM
Momentum is the official annual yearbook of the Economics Association, Department of Economics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Published annually, it serves as a permanent record of the Association’s journey, showcasing the key activities, achievements, milestones, and initiatives undertaken throughout each academic year.
This publication reflects the Association’s continued commitment to fostering academic excellence, student engagement, leadership development, research, innovation, and community outreach. It documents the diverse academic, professional, cultural, and social programmes organized by the Association while highlighting the active contributions and accomplishments of Economics undergraduates.

JPURA ECONOMICS STUDENTS’ SUMMIT (JESS)
The Jpura Economics Students’ Summit (JESS) ’ is an annual academic initiative organized by the Economics Association of the Department of Economics to provide final-year undergraduate students with a platform to present and disseminate the findings of their dissertation research. The summit serves as an important academic forum where students can communicate their research outcomes, engage with diverse perspectives, and participate in constructive scholarly discussions.
JESS ’26 aims to foster a culture of undergraduate research while strengthening students’ competencies in research, academic presentation, critical thinking, and scholarly communication. By bringing together students, academic staff, and other members of the academic community, the summit creates an environment that encourages knowledge sharing and meaningful discussion of contemporary economic issues.
A key feature of JESS ’26 is its emphasis on connecting research and publication. Following the summit, selected high-quality working papers presented by the participants will be considered for publication through the Department of Economics, providing students with an opportunity to further develop and disseminate their research beyond the conference.
Through JESS ’26, the Department of Economics seeks to recognize and promote the research efforts of its final-year undergraduates and encourage them to take their first steps towards becoming active contributors to the academic and research community.
