Introduction
Since its establishment in 1959, the Department of Economics has been a driving force in producing thousands of skilled graduates over a span of more than 60 years. Today, the department offers a diverse range of courses under two study programs: Economics and Financial Economics. These programs provide students with specialized subject knowledge, essential skills, and the necessary soft skills to excel as economics graduates in a wide range of careers. Moreover, the department provides valuable internship opportunities, allowing students to gain real-world experience in reputed organizations throughout the country.
The department offers three-year (Bachelors) and four-year (Honours) degree programs, addressing some of the most complex issues that impact our world. Whether as consumers, workers, or citizens, people are profoundly influenced by decisions related to taxation, government spending on education, healthcare, and other essential services. As inhabitants of our planet, they are affected by factors such as trade, carbon emissions resulting from economic activities, and the availability and quality of food. Economics continually expands its scope, incorporating an increasing number of issues and analytical methods. These decisions play a critical role in shaping societal well-being.
To stay at the forefront of new practices and teaching methods, the Department of Economics regularly updates its curricula. In addition to the undergraduate degree program, the department offers post-graduate, diploma, and certificate courses, featuring the expertise of both academics and practitioners from various organizations.
Through our comprehensive programs and collaborative approach, we strive to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to navigate the complexities of the economic landscape. We are committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment that prepares our graduates to make meaningful contributions to society.
Strategic Aspiration of the Department
The Department operates in alignment with the vision, mission, and strategic goals and objectives outlined in the university’s corporate plan. We are dedicated to achieving excellence in both teaching and research, guided by a strong commitment to academic and scholarly pursuits.
