Under the theme of “Strengthening the External Sector to achieve a 7% Economic Growth” the summit was hosted by the Department of Business Economics, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the University of Colombo in collaboration with Sri Lanka Forum of Junior Business Economists (SLFJBE) at the Centre for Banking studies (Central Bank of Sri Lanka)– Rajagiriya, Colombo on 15th of August 2019.
Nine contestants represented the team of the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for the events;
Ranrasu; Festival of Art organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was held on the 16th, 23rd and 30th January 2020 at the Bandaranayaka Hall of the University. The students of Department of Economics also performed in the event and won the Award for the Best Comedy Act . The role play was acted by students under the theme of “Mega Wasanthe”. The story of “Mega Wasanthe” discuss the disputes of households arises as a result of Mega Dramas telecastin in TV channels.
The students who acted in this short role play was,
Geethanjali Bathi Gee Saraniya” an inter-department and inter-faculty Bakthi Gee (Devotional Songs) competition organized by the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of FHSS, was held on 26th June 2018. It was a function that brought together all Departments and Faculties of the University under one roof to perform and be a part of an evening full of devotional tranquility. Students of Department of Economics also took part in the competition and won the third place.
Inter Department Speech Competition organized by the Soft Skills Development Unit of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, final round was held on 13th December 2017 at Sumangala reading Hall. For the final round from the English Medium category and Sinhala medium category Department of Economics qualified to compete.
Department of Economics(English Medium Category) became winners after competitive competition.

Vidudaya Vivadaya 2016 Inter-department debate competition final round was held on 30th November at Sumangala Reading Hall with the participation of the Dr. D.P.S. Chandrakumara, Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. P. Mandawala, Dean Faculty of Technology and all the soft skill development unit staff members.
