In a warm and inclusive ceremony, Chinese students pursuing the Master of Economics degree program offered by the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences together with the Faculty of Graduate Studies were welcomed to the University on 2nd August 2023 at the Sri Sumangala Auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences from 8:30 am onwards. The event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to foster international education collaboration and promote academic exchange between China and the university.
This event was graced by the Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mr. A.B. Welivita, Registrar of the University, Academic Staff of the Department of Economics and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Administrative Staff of the University and Chinese students who follow the degree program.
Prof. Gamini Weerasinghe, the coordinator of the Master of Economics degree program, extended a heartfelt welcome to the distinguished guests presented. During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage and Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences expressed their enthusiasm for the new cohort of Chinese students and emphasized their commitment to providing a supportive and enriching academic environment. They highlighted the diverse opportunities available for these students to engage in research and immerse themselves in the vibrant university culture. As well as, the Chinese students, eager to begin their academic journey, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed their excitement to learn from esteemed professors and collaborate with fellow students from different backgrounds.
The University’s and the Faculty’s move to embrace international students is seen as a testament to its commitment to global education and fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. It is expected to further strengthen academic ties between China and Sri Lanka, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation in the multidisciplinary field.
