Call for Articles
About
“Music Scholar – A Magazine on Global Music Matters” is an online biannual magazine initiative that provides a scholarly and creative platform for undergraduates, graduates, and other degree holders to publish academic and practice-based music-related work published by the Department of Music and Creative Technology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. The magazine will feature Sinhala and English content and focus on global and local perspectives in musicology, music education, music technology, music industry, and related fields. Contributors are requested to submit Feature Articles that maintain an academic tone, rather than full-length research papers.
Categories
The magazine will welcome contributions in the following categories:
- Research summaries or findings
- Discussions with music professionals
- Fieldwork experiences
- Historical or analytical essays
- Book and performance reviews
- Music education and industry perspectives
- Concert Reviews
- Creative or reflective academic writing
Contributors can be from any institution or background with a formal qualification in music and other relevant fields, such as mass media, Archaeology, anthropology, etc.
Author Guidelines
Authors are kindly requested to adhere to the following basic writing and formatting requirements when submitting articles to Music Scholar – A Magazine of Global Music Matters

- Language
- Submissions must be written in clear and grammatically accurate English or Sinhala.
- An academic or semi-academic tone is preferred, depending on the nature of the article (feature, commentary, review, etc.).
- Article Type
- Articles should be feature articles, essays, or critical reflections, not full research papers.
- All submissions must maintain intellectual depth and originality, appropriate to a scholarly readership.
- Formatting
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font Size: 12 pt
- Line Spacing: 1.5
- Alignment: Justified
- Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
- File Format: Microsoft Word (doc or .docx)
- Length
- Articles should typically range between 1,000 to 2,500 words unless otherwise agreed upon with the editorial board.
- Title and Author Information
- Include the title of the article, author’s full name, affiliation, and email address at the beginning of the document.
- A short author bio (around 50 words) should be provided at the end of the article.
- References
- If sources are cited, please follow APA citation style as specified by the editorial team.
- Include a reference list or bibliography when necessary.
- Tables/Images and Media
- Authors may include Tables, high-resolution images (minimum 300 dpi) with appropriate captions (i.e. Table 01: Teacher responses on satisfaction / Image 01: The structure of Kithara) and copyright information.
- Plagiarism
- Submissions must be original and unpublished. All articles will be screened for plagiarism.
- Editorial Rights
- The editorial board reserves the right to edit submissions for clarity, grammar, length, and style, with the author’s consent when substantial changes are made.
- Submission

- Include “Submission – Music Scholar” in the subject line.
- Name your article as “Author Name_ Title” format
