The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of priorities and aspirations to guide all countries in tackling the world’s most pressing challenges. All stakeholders: governments, civil society, the private sector, and others, are expected to contribute to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More important than ever, the goals provide a critical framework for COVID-19 recovery as well.

The Centre for UN Sustainable Development Goals of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura has initiated a forum to create a firm awareness on implementing the SDGs in all our core operations by understanding the importance of introducing Sustainability Literacy among the members of the faculty.

This project aims at exploring trends related to the SDGs practiced on the national and global level and how these trends can be incorporated into suit the mission and the vision of the faculty. Further, the academic staff of the faculty is encouraged to develop their education, research, innovation and leadership skills and measure the progress of their works.

The Centre for UN Sustainable Development Goals expects to create a dialogue for addressing social, environmental and economic challenges by addressing all 17 sustainable development goals faculty hopes

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences expects to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals in four pathways.

  • Increase academic engagement in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research on SDGs.
  • Provide students with the knowledge and skills to understand and address the sustainable development challenges.
  • Strengthen community participation in addressing the SDGs.
  • Incorporate governance and operations aligned with SDGs within the faculty
