The Certificate Course in English, covering 96 hours is designed for the internal students who have completed the Compulsory English Language Course offered by the English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Those students who have scored above UTEL Band 4 in all four language skills are eligible to follow the course.
It is aimed at developing the language competencies in listening, speaking, reading and writing to approach the UTEL Band 5. Grammar and vocabulary items are introduced where necessary to help the students to follow the given activities related to the main language skills.
The course materials are arranged on a thematic basis and each theme is developed by incorporating the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing activities to enable them to reach the required UTEL Band Level.
Assessments: Final written test paper carries 60 marks and continuous assessments carry 40 marks.
