Food fiesta – Cultural food festival

The Department of Languages, Cultural Studies, and Performing Arts at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura successfully hosted a Cultural Food Festival on April 25th, 2023. The festival celebrated the cultural heritage of French, Hindi, and Japanese languages and aimed to promote cultural exchange and understanding through the sharing of traditional and street foods and practices. The event was attended by the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Head Prof. Nilanthi Rajapaksha, and other lecturers and the university students. The event was coordinated by Hindi lecturer Dr. Wajira Gunasena, Japanese lecturer Dr. Samanthika Lokugamage, and French lecturer Ms. Charitha Liyanage and. This language student-led initiative aimed to encourage students and staff to learn about and appreciate the customs and traditions of different cultures, as part of their culture course units. The organizers urged everyone to try different dishes and engage with students from different language studies to celebrate diversity and foster cultural understanding together.
