University of Sri Jayewardenepura wishes to express their deepest sympathy in regards to the death of Prof. D Senevi Epitawatta, Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura who has passed away today (2 September 2017) at Jayewardenepura Hospital .
Dr. D.S. Epitawatta served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from October 2002 to December 2003. He was also a former Dean of Faculty of Arts and Head of the Department of Geography.
Prof. Epitawatta was a Professor attached to Department of Geography. He obtained his PhD from University of Sheffield in UK. He has conduced research on Biogeography and related fields. He was an Excellent teacher and good communicator. He participated as a TV presenter and involved in dissemination of Environment conservation message to the general public and students. One such program was his participation in the documentary produced by National Television on Sinharaja Forest. He has authored several text books on Geography to A/L students and University students.
He has also served in Central Cultural Fund and Post-graduate Institute of Archaeology (PGAIR).
His remains lie at 103/27, Samarapala Perera Mawatha, Boralesgamuwa. The funeral will take place on 4 September, 2017 at the Boralesgamuwa Cemetary at 4.30 pm.
