The JICA project team met Professor Shirantha Heenekenda, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, on the 13th of October 2022 to discuss their newest project on expanding employment support for Persons with Disabilities. The expansion of employment opportunities that can be offered for the differently abled students at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was discussed successfully. Several differently-abled students from the faculty have already been contacted by the JICA team to further discuss their employment opportunities. Further plans to expand the employment arena for Persons with Disabilities and the objective of offering them Equal opportunities were agreed upon and conversed by both parties.
The JICA team were pleased with the implementations (ABLE Online Audio Library, the “DREAM’ scholarship program, the 100% web accessibility for the visually impaired and the Equal Opportunity cell) carried out by the faculty for the welfare of the differently abled students. They expressed their support for further activities initiated by the faculty.
On behalf of the JICA team, Mr Takashi Shimizu, Mr Dhammika Wasalabandara and other respective project team members were present, and on behalf of the faculty along with the Dean, Dr Nelum Kanthilatha, Mr.K.E.K. Nayanajith, Dr Indira Mawelle, Professor Kusumalatha Lankamulla, Dr Thanuja Silva, Dr Shantha Gamlath and Mrs Samantha Geeganange attended the meeting.
