Training Program on Drug Prevention for Police Officers

 

The Department of Philosophy and Psychology organised a special two day workshop series on Drug Prevention which was held in 19th and 20th September at the University with the anticipation of Most Venerable Prof Madagoda Abhayatissa Thero, State Secretary of School Sports: Ravindra Samarawickrama, Vice Chancellor: Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences:Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, Head of the Department: Senior Professor Gnanadasa Perera, , Senior Deputy Inspector General: Deshabandu Thennakoon, Deputy Inspector General: Dr Dinesh Karunanayake, Women SSP: Mrs. Bimsani Jasinghaarachchi, Director General UNESCO, Asia Division: Dr. P.N. Meegaswatte, Director General of NGO attached to the ministry of defence: Mr Raja Gunarathna, Commandant of Volunteer Naval Force Sri Lanka: Rear Admiral K.A.S Uthpala, Director (Actg) National Police Academy Katana: Senior Superintend of Police Mr Manjula Mahagirilla and other distinguished guests to the inauguration session.
The workshop had immensely focused on psychotherapies and counselling services for drug prevention and 150 police officers participated in this event attached to the Colombo district Zone including SOCO division, Police Children and Women Bureau and Police Academy. The Lectures and practical session were conducted by Senior Professor Gnandasa Perera and he supervised the entire workshop with reference to the expertise knowledge. Moreover Senior Lecturer attached to the Department of Philosophy and Psychology: Mr Aruna Shantha Walpola, Director General UNESCO; Asia Division: Dr. P.N. Meegaswatte, Lieutenant Colonel Pradeep Perera who is the Director the Bureau of Rehabilitation and Deputy Inspector General: Dr Dinesh Karunanayake. This event included Psychodrama, music therapy, laughter therapy, aversion therapy and all other drug related therapeutic techniques. The national media also covered this massive event and this was obviously focused the wellbeing of Sri Lankan Society.
