Academic Exchange Programme and Indo-Sri Lankan Students’ Seminar

A delegation representing the Department of Geography, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura has taken part in an Academic Exchange Programme at the Parwathibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Margao, Goa, India, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the two universities, which was held from 15th to 20th March 2017. Sri Lankan delegation was led by Prof. Sunethra Thennakoon (Head), including Mr. Sumanajith Kumara (Senior Lecturer), Mr. Ravi Nandana  Gamachchige (Probationary Lecturer) and 17 final year undergraduates of  Department of Geography. Several rounds of seminars, workshops and discussions were held during the programmme. A Student Seminar on “Changing Geographies of Cultural Landscape: Perspectives of India and Sri Lanka” was held on 18th March 2017 exploring the latest trends in the regional cultural landscape. Students representing both Universities presented their papers and shared the knowledge at this seminar. Accordingly, lectures were conducted for Sri Lankan students by the Dr. Nandakumar Sawant (Head of the Institution)  and Mrs. Anagha Bicholcar (Head of the Geography Department) of the Parvatibai  Chowgule College on 16th and 17th March 2017. A series of lectures were also conducted by the Sri Lankan scholars to Geography students in Parwathibai Chowgule College on themes of “Eco Strategies of Sri Lanka” and “Trends in Tourism of Sri Lanka” by Prof. Sunethra Thennakoon, “Physical Background of Sri Lanka” by Mr. Sumanajith Kumara and “Cultural Background of Sri Lanka” by Mr. Ravi Nandana Gamachchige. A field trip had also been organized for Sri Lankan students on 19. 03. 2017, where they gained knowledge on cultural landscape, geography and tourism sector of the area.
