In keeping with the goal of promoting foreign languages, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences had a discussion with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the 1st December 2021 at the Office of the Dean. Japanese Language Education is an aspect among many others to which the JICA volunteers contribute when promoting Sustainable Development Goals. The volunteers under the programme assist to improve the Japanese language skills of those who aspire to learn the language.
The discussion was held in participation with Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mr. Chamninda Ranasinghe, Program Officer of the JICA Volunteer Programme, Mr. Akio Nakamoto, Senior Representative, Ms. Miya Katayama, Volunteer Coordinator.
The faculty extends their heartfelt appreciation to the JICA for their willingness to collaborate with the faculty in this endeavor to promote the Japanese Language. During the meeting the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka was also appreciated for their resolute support and cooperation. This initiative to promote the Japanese Language is also perceived as an attempt to foster the bilateral relations between Japan and Sri Lanka that celebrates the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022.
