A two-day workshop was held on 6th and 7th January 2020 to train the lecturers of the DELT on “Designing Materials for Students with Low and High English Language Proficiency”. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Sharon McCulloch of Central Lancashire University UK and Dr. Bimali Indrarathne of York University UK and funded by British Council Sri Lanka. According to a study conducted by British Council, Sri Lanka in 2019, universities receive students with varied English language proficiency and should cater to all types of students. In the two-day workshop, it was discussed how to develop materials to help students with low proficiency to increase their proficiency level and also how to develop more EAP (English for Academic Purposes) type materials aimed at students with higher levels of proficiency.
