Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda Appointed as a Member of the Research Group of Innovation and Development by the Japan Society for International Development

It is with pleasure the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences announces that Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been appointed as a member representing the university and the country in the Research Group of Innovation and Development for Solving Social Problems by the Japan Society for International Development (JASID) for a period of three years. As an alumnus of the Nagoya University, Japan, Professor Heenkenda had the opportunity to provide an important perspective enriched with national and international experience in the field of Economics during the inaugural discussion that was held virtually on the 15th January 2022.

The objective of the research group is to determine the multidisciplinary methods and come up with relevant policy recommendations for the complex challenges faced by societies across the contemporary world. The discussion was insightful as there were diverse views expressed by the research group members who represented various countries like India, Cambodia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, and Sri Lanka. Intending to further enhance the scope of the research group, it was also suggested during the discussion to welcome members from European regions as well.

As a faculty that constantly works towards enhancing its research capacity, collaborating with the international community is of profound significance to reach the intended outcomes.
