The Master of Economics is the latest postgraduate program introduced by the Department of Economics at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. This is a one-year program designed specially to attract international students from all corners of the world as a groundbreaking initiative of Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. This new program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of economic theories and principles, equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in the field. By offering a specialized curriculum, the Department of Economics plans to produce graduates who are well-equipped to tackle complex economic challenges and contribute to the development of the nation and the globe. With a strong emphasis on research and practical application, students enrolled in the program will have the opportunity to delve into various areas of economics, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, international economics, etc. The program has successfully enrolled its first batch of 63 Chinese students. Under the guidance of an exceptional teaching panel, the inaugural batch have the privilege to obtain an unparalleled educational experience. Currently, the Department of Economics and the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura collaboratively have taken charge of overseeing the management of students. In accordance with the Sri Lanka Quality Framework, the program encompasses a total of 30 credits, and a student who completes the degree will fulfill the SLQF Level 09. The primary language of instruction in teaching and learning is English. This significant decision aims to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly globalized world. In terms of future opportunities, the department intends to extend the program’s existence to both international and local students, with the aim of maximizing the benefits of a tailored educational experience that draws upon a wide range of cultural backgrounds
