Qualifying requirements

B.A in English and B.A in TESL

Any student of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences wishing to pursue any course unit of the BA in English (General) Degree programme should pass the Selection Test administered by the Department in the First Semester of the First Academic Year of their study (details of the selection test are announced at the students’ orientation programme). However those who have obtained at least a Simple Pass for the subject – English: subject number 73 – at the GCE (A/L) Examination are not required to sit for this Selection Test. In order to qualify for the BA in English (Special) Degree programme, a student is required to obtain a minimum of 2 B passes (2 semesters – 2 courses) at the end of the First Year of their studies.

In addition, the government school teachers of English (trained) are enrolled for the undergraduate programmes (BA in English and BA in TESL) offered by the department based on their performance at the GAQ (External) Examination and a subsequent viva voce administered by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
